Black, Catherine: As a clinical social worker, Catherine had deep insight into the darker
aspects of the human condition. Frank's increasing involvement with The Millennium Group led her to question the safety of her own family. She told Frank: "It's about things that happen to us that don't happen to other people." Following her abduction by the Polaroid Stalker, Catherine and Frank separated so she could distance herself and Jordan from her husband's dangerous work.
Catherine's tragic exposure to the Marburg Virus fueled Frank's anger toward The Millennium Group, which he believed engineered the deadly plague.

Black, Frank: Frank was a retired FBI agent who specialized in criminal profiling -- a profession he excelled at due to his unique ability to "see inside the mind of a killer." After moving to Seattle with his wife Catherine and daughter Jordan, he offered his services to the local police department via
the Millennium Group, an organization that believed pre-millennial fever was responsible for the increase in crime.
His submersion into the Group led to a painful separation from Catherine and the realization his employers were dangerous people who would later unleash a deadly plague that would kill his wife.
Following Catherine's death, Frank and Jordan relocated to Falls Church, Virginia, where he resumed work for the FBI and was teamed with the inexperienced Emma Hollis. She would aid his many investigations into
the Group and their heinous crimes. However, their strong, trusting relationship was soon shattered when Emma accepted membership with
the Group. At the same time, Frank received a mysterious folder of information that sparked his unexpected departure from Falls Church.

Alone and faced with the responsibility of being a Group member, Lara's sanity quickly diminished. Her final act was giving her Marburg Virus vaccine to Frank, who then gave it to Jordan.

the Group and Patron to Frank Black, assisting him on numerous Group assigned cases.
As the Marburg Virus spread across the Pacific Northwest, Frank challenged his colleague and friend to realize the controlling, manipulative nature of
the Group. While trying to reach Lara Means, the Group abducted Peter and somehow restored his loyalty.
Peter then followed Frank to Quantico and worked toward damaging both Frank's credibility and his accusations against The Group. Ultimately, he accepted the truth of Frank's claims and to protect his family (wife: Barbara, daughters: Chelsea, Erin, and Taylor), tried to expose The Group by giving Frank a folder of sensitive information. His actions saved Frank and Jordan's lives... at the cost of his own.

There was no evidence she was ever inside the house. [Lamentation] During Frank's pursuit of Al Pepper, it appeared the man momentarily transformed into Lucy. [Powers, Principalities, Thrones, and Dominions] Frank's investigation into the disappearance of Landon Bryce lead him to suspect Lucy of "recruiting" average teenagers for reeducation. Using sexual advances to manipulate her captives, she effectively convinced them she alone could give them meaning to their lives. The authorities arrived to free her captives, but Lucy had again eluded them. [A Room With No View] Resurfacing under the guise of a nanny for hire, Lucy sought to steal young Devina Saxum from her parents and raise the child herself. Frank Black's interference prompted another strategy: conceive a child with her greatest nemesis. And so she attempted, visiting Frank's motel during the night and "raping" him. Yet after being struck by an automobile, she glumly told Frank she had lost their baby. [Antipas] Lucy appeared to transform into Lucas Sanderson as the Sanderson home burned to the ground. Obsessed with becoming noticed, Dees allowed an FBI sniper to assassinate him by bluffing he had wired Frank's car. [522666]
Dickerson, James: A juvenile offender without a family, he attempted to establish emotional connections at funerals. However, his "friend" Connor severed any potential relationships by killing those he met. James was accused of the murders, but Frank and Catherine proved his innocence. He was last seen in his bedroom circling obituaries, planning his next attempt at finding a family. [Blood Relatives]
Dion, Henry: With assistance from the FBI, Frank discovered the body of Dion's final victim, Amy Lee Walker, and released a statement describing her killer as an unintelligent, cowardly, homosexual man. When Dion called out of rage, as predicted, they traced him to his mother's home. corporate security dream team." Members of The Trust included two ex-KGB, two ex-MOSSAD agents, and three former colleagues of Frank's: Duncan, Vitaris, and Trust leader Brian "Dix" Dixon. [The Fourth Horseman] Gilbert was later killed in a fiery car crash after his breaks accidentally failed. [The Time Is Now]
Gilroy, Jim (Jake Waterson): Peter Watts informed Frank that Jake Waterson, known to Frank as Jim Gilroy for the murders of three nurses in 1992, was suspected in the shooting of a Missouri State trooper. The
sloppiness of the crime lead Frank to suspect a more impulsive killer. His beliefs were confirmed when Gilroy was found alive in the locked trunk of a submerged car, the work of Bobby Webber. [The Wild and the Innocent]
Glaser, Alex (Alex Ventoux): A teenager with a bright future who left behind material possessions (including a telescope to an elementary school in honor of his younger brother Ian) and journeyed into
Alaskan wilderness in search of enlightenment. His frightened parents contacted Frank, who went to find the boy, despite objections from The Millennium Group. Alex was eventually found, frozen nearly to death, and was taken to a hospital where he once again
disappeared under his new name: Alex Ventoux. It's explained that five hundred years earlier, a man named Petrarch climbed a mountain just to see the view, ushering in the beginning of the Renaissance. And the name of the mountain was Ventoux. [Luminary]
Goopta, Juggernaut: After publishing a detective story in the literary journal "The Dark Mask," Goopta founded Selfosophy and wrote the following: "How To Be Happy Even When You Shouldn't," "How To Manipulate People By Your Apparent Friendliness," "How To Overcome Your Fears By Making Others Fear You," and "Selfosophy: The Power of Positive Negation." [Jose Chung's "Doomsday Defense"]
Gordon, Howard: A friend of Landon Bryce, Bryce spoke up on his behalf during an interview with school guidance counselor Teresa Roe. During Bryce's kidnapping, the boy turned to see Lucy Butler standing in the doorway. The sheer fright resulted in his immediate death. [A Room With No View]
Gouravich, Moses: A radical Israeli who believed Jeanie Cohen-Bronstein was a descendant of the Kohain, a traditional tribe of priests. He was responsible for Jeanie's abduction and forced her to give birth to the child believed to be the next Messiah. He later attempted to flee the FBI by ascending to a rooftop where a helicopter was waiting. However, the helicopter was not able to land and Gouravich lost his footing. Before falling to his death, he handed the child to Emma. [Forcing the End]
Greb: The devil who tormented Waylon Figglief, the network censor who embodied "broadcast standards and practices" and was eventually driven insane by "bearing the weight of maintaining the nation's morality on his shoulders." [Somehow, Satan Got Behind Me]
Mr. Green: Conditioned his son Richard to abduct Helen Black and other women. On the floor of his cell at the Glenrosa State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, Richard had carved the Mark of Lucifer, the sign of eternal loyalty. Richard had believed he was being controlled by Satan (his father) who would pull him back whenever there was a chance of recovery. [Sacrament]
Green, Richard: Abducted Helen Black from St. John's Church in Seattle following her son's
baptism. Although her blood was found in a cabin in Peninsula National Park, Richard had actually hid her within the walls of his parent's basement. [Sacrament]
Gunsche, Helmut: A hit man for Odessa, he was responsible for furthering the rift between the Owls and the Roosters by murdering Robert LeFur and Gordon Johnston. [Owls] He later murdered The Old Man as he slept in Frank's basement at 1910 Ezekiel. [Roosters]
Hance, Richard Alan: A serial killer who saw his victim's weakness as an invitation to kill them. Frank recalled that twenty years earlier he entered an abandoned building looking for Hance and narrowly escaped with a deep scar in his right palm. After realizing Hance's crimes were being recreated by Hance's former cellmate Richard Tyler, Frank visited the criminal in prison to better understand the pattern. [The Thin White Line]
Hanes, Alex: Jealous (or simply confused) that Mary Magdalene would appear to Clare McKenna instead of a devoted Christian like himself, Alex attempted to assassinate the girl, but Ben Fisher took the bullet instead. [Anamnesis]
Reverend Sam Hanes: The minister of the church where the five girls claimed to have had a vision of Mary
Magdalene, he forcibly baptized Clare's friends believing it was the only way to end their "Godlessness." But when it it was Clare's turn, Mary
Magdalene, now visible to everyone present, returned to protect her. [Anamnesis]
Haskell, Maddie: After her deceased mother's boyfriend, Jim Gilroy, sold her baby on the blackmarket, Maddie enlisted the aid of her own boyfriend Bobby Webber. They located the child in the custody of Sam and Adeline Travis, but Maddie decided he should remain with them. She ultimately shot Bobby when he forcibly tried to remove the child and was incarcerated for her crime. [The Wild and the Innocent]
Highsmith, Patricia: Witnessed the murder of her parents Joseph and Mary Kay. Frank found Patricia hidden within an
air vent and had her transported to a hospital where she developed a relationship with Catherine and Jordan. [Wide Open]
Ho, Wing: A chemist for the Hong Kong triads, Ho tainted his heroine supply as a possible means of revenge against the Dai Lo who had executed his brother in Taiwan. The Dai Lo set Wing Ho's warehouse aflame, with Ho, his pushers Pulga and Johnny, and Tamra Caffrey inside. Frank fortunately found Tamra and carried her out moments before it exploded. [Human Essence]
Hoffman, Dennis: After consulting on a cult case for The Millennium Group, Peter Watts described Hoffman as dangerous "only if you listen to him." He later assisted Frank with locating The Iron Lung Man. Hoffman was last seen in the company of The Iron Lung Man's cloned children who he, presumably, lead to safety. [Force Majeure]
Hollis, James: Emma's father, who began a rapid decline into
Alzheimer's, had a mysterious link to Cass Doyle as he was seen photocopying pictures of palm trees being destroyed by a nuclear blast. Cass too had a fixation on palm trees -- she drew them on the walls of her cell, the orderly she murdered wore a military insignia of a palm tree, and she was raped by her father and found holding Joe McNolte's severed head in The Palm Court Motel. [Darwin's Eye] Peter Watts explained to Emma that The Millennium Group had been involved in biomedical research and discovered a way to reverse the affects of
Alzheimer's. Emma declined his invitation for help. [Via Dolorosa] After seeing her father's condition worsen, Emma reluctantly agreed to join The Millennium Group, but her father, his condition improved, told her: "You shouldn't have done what they asked." [Goodbye To All That]
Hollis, Melissa: Emma's sister who she had witnessed murdered twenty years earlier by a man named Michael Wynter. Wynter later committed suicide in prison. Every year on the anniversary of her death, Emma personally requested a murder case so she may someday know what would drive a person to
commit such an unfathomable act. [Closure]
Hoover, J. Edgar: Along with Clyde Tolson, Hoover was responsible for the rebirth of The Millennium Group, an ancient organization he believed had a place in the United States' government. [Matryoshka]
Horn, Jim: A potential Group candidate, Horn worked with Frank toward the apprehension of a serial killer. However, the nature of his work (along with an estrangement from his wife Cindy and son T.C.) placed him under an unbearable amount of stress. The Group rejected him. [Dead Letters]
Hunziger, Malcolm: By apprehending Henry Dion, Frank cleared Malcolm of the murder of his wife and reunited him with his parents C.R. and Adele Hunziger. [Paper Dove]
Ingram, Hans: An employee of a drug company, Ingram insisted the nation was becoming a race of zombies and intended to "wake them up" by distributing packages of his violence-inducing drug Smooth Time. [Walkabout]
The Inquisitor: Regarding Frank's anger toward The Millennium Group for not apprehending
the Polaroid Stalker, The Inquisitor admitted to Peter Watts that they should taken
hold of the situation much earlier. [The Beginning and the End] And following Frank's murder the Polaroid Stalker, he asked if Frank "still considered himself a viable candidate." [Luminary] It's assumed he was promoted to the rank of Elder after the death of The Old Man. He assured Peter Watts that Frank Black would someday return to them. [Matryoshka]
The Iron Lung Man: So strong was his belief in a catastrophic planetary alignment on May 5th 2000, he cloned identical offspring so the survivors of the new world would "care for each other like brother and sister." Two of his daughters committed suicide after learning their father was dying and would not be joining them: Lauren -- set herself on fire, and Carlin -- jumped off a dam. A power outage ceased the operation of the iron lung to which he was confined, but Frank knew his children would one day assemble in Pocatello, Idaho in the ark they had constructed. [Force Majeure]
Jarret, Randle: Max Brunelli's lawyer, Jarret "brainwashed" his client with false memories until Brunelli believed he had indeed sexually assaulted and murdered Mary Flanagan. Yet after viewing Brunelli's confession on
videotape and comparing it with the most recent one concerning Shannon McNalty, Frank recognized Brunelli's words were rehearsed and not his own. Frank explained to Emma that during the twenty years Brunelli was in prison, Jarret would continue his perversion on family members. Jarett's wife Karen later admitted her husband was responsible for all of Brunelli's crimes and that she had sent her eldest daughter Amanda to live with her Amanda's aunt for protection. [Through a Glass, Darkly]
Johnston, Gordon: Although claiming allegiance to the Roosters, Johnston was secretly a member of the Owls faction and approached Lara Means, claiming they could "relieve her of her gift" and "prevent her from going completely insane." He was later murdered roadside by Odessa
hit man Helmut Gunsche. [Owls]
The Judge: Employed ex-convicts to carry out the rulings of his personal court -- twisted
vengeance for those mistreated by the United States' corrupt justice system. Among his offenders: Biggs -- a landlord whose negligence caused the death of an elderly tenant and Jonathon Mellen -- a detective whose false testimony sent an innocent man to prison. The Judge propositioned Frank to join his caused, but was, of course, refused. [The Judge]
Kellough, Cheryl: The girlfriend of Daniel Baron/Lucas Barr, Cheryl was oblivious to Daniel's crimes and, being blind, unaware he had been secretly boarding up the windows and doors of her home. At the arrival of Frank Black, she tripped the circuit breakers and ran, but Daniel found her using his
night vision goggles. Frank broke the door in just as Daniel began to use a cordless drill on Cheryl's neck and convinced him to stop. At the realization of who he had become, Daniel turned the instrument on himself. [Goodbye To All That]
Kiley, Steven: A man who held jobs as both a nurse at the Seattle General Hospital and as a counselor at the Crisis Center, he specialized in doctor-assisted suicide and was the focus of The Millennium Group's query, "Should we assist to arrest or assist to protect?" He had a penchant for singing "Summers in the Sun" and "Goodbye Charlie" to his victims as they died. He also placed a walnut in their mouths, which he described as "the gift of prophecy," their ticket on a journey after losing consciousness. Eventually, he simply disappeared, his likeness captured in a painting of, what else, Greeks eating walnuts. [Goodbye Charlie]
King, Carlton (Skylark): Unsuccessfully attempted to warn cheerleader Tammy Meador that Brant Carmody was planning an assault on the school. He also sent threatening letters to Brant under the alias Skylark. [Teotwawki]
King, Gary: A business partner of Chris Carmody, Gary had purchased gas generators, non-perishable food items, and assault rifles for the ComLogic compound in Washington State. His son Carlton lead Frank and Emma to this compound where a shoot-out began, but Carlton stood between them and Gary surrendered. [Teotwawki]
Knight, Clear: The Vice President of Personnel Relations for Aerotech International and Catherine's boss, her friendly
demeanor was simply a facade, much like Aerotech itself, which was really a front for Odessa, a Nazi clique. [Owls] The assassination of Odessa leader Ruldolf Axmann coincided with her arrest. [Roosters]
Special Agent Michael Lanyard: The young FBI Agent who was sent to Los Alamos on the request of Assistant Director Clyde Tolson. After discovering what Dr. Alexander had become as a result of his work on the atomic bomb project, Lanyard returned to Washington D.C. only to have his report altered. He swore to one day give Natalie Alexander her father's journal, but after fifty-four years without success, he shot himself in the head. [Matryoshka]
Captain Law: The captain of a ship smuggling Chinese refugees to America, he described how he rescued a strange woman from the sea, which led to the death of a crewman, Fung Lum, and Chin's brother. Law then insisted she be separated from the other passengers and chained within the bowels of the ship. [Siren]
Lee, Tamara Shui Fa: A Chinese immigrant who appeared to be responsible for the deaths of four men on a smuggling ship. She claimed she could offer anything to Frank, "Power... wealth... sex." Frank unwittingly accepted her offer, subconsciously wishing to see what his life without The Millennium Group would be like. Frank was later found shivering, near death, on the roadside. He sought out Tamara, but she did not appear to recognize him. [Siren]
LeFur, Robert: The French Millennium Group member who was murdered by Helmut Gunsche as he attempted to smuggle the remains of the True Cross out of Syria. [Owls]
Levinson, Rachel: A follower of Moses Gouravich, she helped Jeanie Bronstein give birth in water -- an attempt at keeping the child believed to be the next Messiah from being polluted ("the earth holds the dead.") Moses later accused Rachel of giving her vestment to Jeanie and allowing her to escape, although it was Peter Watts who was actually responsible. Rachel was stoned to death by Moses and his followers in Mount Moriah Park. [Forcing the End]
Lhasa and Rose: The mysterious mute women who were responsible for the resurrection of Eddie Gianini and Al Ryan. Over a period of nine years, Eddie pretended to be Littlefoot, a mythical creature he hoped would prevent people from entering the woods and discovering Lhasa and Rose. [Omerta]
The Long-Haired Man: Possibly a more sinister side to Lucy Butler's personality, he appeared to Catherine shortly after she found Dr. Fabricant's kidney in her refrigerator. [Lamentation] The Long-Haired Man was also seen
struggling with Landon Bryce as he pulled the boy to his cell. Lucy told Landon: "It upsets me when you make him have to do that." [A Room With No View] He later appeared to both John Saxum and Emma, luring the latter into a deadly hedge maze she narrowly escaped. When Emma and Frank drove away from the Saxum property, they hit The Long-Haired Man, but it was Lucy Butler they saw lying on the ground. [Antipas]
Mr. Lott: A Group member who revealed to Frank that The Millennium Group was not interested in any individual life, but that their responsibility lied with the whole of humanity. [The Time Is Now]
Mabius: It's unknown to what capacity Mabius served The Millennium Group, but he was obviously a
menacing threat to Frank and Emma. He appeared in Fingus, Maine, as Emma unearthed the skulls of Cheryl Andrews and other victims. [Skull and Bones] When Peter Watts located the building where Eric Swan had taken his daughter Taylor, Mabius was lurking in the shadows. [Collateral Damage] Mabius attempted to assassinate Dr. Steven Takahashi, but the doctor died before he could. And although he placed a gun at Frank's head, he simply stole the red lacquer bowl Takahashi was carrying and left without incident. [Bardo Thodol] Frank's psychiatrist Dr. Luanne Chase was murdered by Mabius who had approached her as Special Agent Boxer and then literally transformed himself -- a hint he was more than human. [Seven and One]
Martin: Martin was charged with the murders of occultist Eddy Pressman and a babysitter (name unknown) whose throat he slashed. Martin died in his cell days later of a massive brain hemorrhage, possibly caused by a psychic connection he shared with his lawyer Alistair Pepper. After Mike Atkins was found stabbed in the throat, Frank pursued Pepper through a grocery store where he momentarily transformed into Martin and Lucy Butler. [Powers, Principalities, Thrones, and Dominions]
Pathologist Massey: Massey assisted Frank with several cases. [The Pilot, The Judge]
McKenna, Clare: The leader of a group of high school girls, Clare claimed to have visions of Mary
Magdalene and would relapse into the past to relive certain biblical events. Leslie, Shelley, Maureen and Kelly were Clare's friends who also shared her vision. [Anamnesis]
McKenna, Ray: Clare's father and sole parent, he reluctantly allowed
Reverend Hanes to baptize his daughter against her will. [Anamnesis]
McNalty, Shannon: Shannon's disappearance was initially blamed on Max Brunelli, but an investigation by Frank and Emma revealed Randle Jarett was actually responsible. Shannon and a friend later left a basket of food on Brunelli's doorstep -- an act of compassion. [Through a Glass, Darkly]
Dr. Liz Michaels: The head archeologist at a New York construction site, Michaels assisted Frank as he investigated the mysterious remains found at her dig site. Together, they
hypothesized that an ancient Indian tribe, its existence once concealed through the blending of other tribes, had reunited to fulfill an ancient prophecy: the opening of another plane of existence via the death of the lost white brother -- Frank. [A Single Blade of Grass]
Dr. Daniel Miller (Danny): Miller organized Frank's participation in an experimental medical trial (using Frank's pseudonym David Marx), under the impression it was for Proloft, an antidepressant used to treat certain temporal lobe anomalies. Frank attended the trial to attempt to rid himself of his "gift," but was instead infected by the drug Smooth Time. Hans Ingram, the man who conducted the trial, later forcibly gave Danny the drug. Frank found him under its influence, walking in heavy traffic. Danny was struck dead by an oncoming car. [Walkabout]
Miller, Dawn: Catherine's sister (married name unknown) who frequently inquired as to whether or not Frank was spending sufficient time with Catherine and Jordan. [Paper Dove]
Miller, Justine and Tom: Catherine's parents who asked Frank to convince their friend C.R. Hunziger to forgive his son, Malcolm, who had been incarcerated for murdering his wife. Frank went beyond and launched an investigation that exonerated Malcolm completely. [Paper Dove] The death of Catherine made the deepest impression on Tom who told Frank: "Every day I have to deal with the anger, wondering 'Why her?' 'Why not you?'" Frank replied: "I wonder too," but Tom believed otherwise. [The Innocents, Exegesis] Justine and Tom later made a brief appearance at Jordan's birthday. [Seven and One]
Murphy, Maureen: A member of The Millennium Group, Murphy assisted Frank and Detective Thomas in the apprehension of Art Nesbitt. [Loin Like a Hunting Flame]
Nesbitt, Art: Convinced young couples to allow him to film their sexual activities as a substitute for encounters he never had. He later murdered the couples to capture them in what he believed would be the happiest, most perfect moment of their lives. After eighteen years of abstaining from sex with his wife Karen, Nesbitt decided to finally try and capture their moment of passion too with a syringe of
poison. Frank, Maureen Murphy, and Detective Thomas stopped Nesbitt before he could give Karen the fatal dose, but Nesbitt injected himself. [Loin Like a Hunting Flame]
Nielsen, Gerald "Gerry": A park ranger Frank suspected was responsible for the death of a college student -- Jan McCall. Frank surmised that Nielsen severed and left Jan's foot where it would be easily found because he had a strange, internal desire to be caught. Nielsen eventually confessed to Frank that he also murdered four others, including a trashy woman named Elizabeth "Liddy" Hooper who was attracted to men in uniform. After finding Liddy drunk, passed out in her car, he led her through the woods to a cement casing alongside a river. There he shoved her feet through the metal rings attached to the casing and began to rape her, holding her head down in the river until she drowned. [Nostalgia]

Professor Amos Randi (his girlfriend's teacher), a movie theater employee, and author Jose Chung. [Jose Chung's "Doomsday Defense"]
The Old Man: The leader of The Millennium Group, he was responsible for educating candidates on the nature of Evil. Among them: Frank Black who
visited Bucksnort on the request of Peter Watts. [Beware of the Dog] Traveled to Seattle and, through his death, reunited The Millennium Group, which had begun disintegration through the influence of Odessa. When questioned by Lara Means on what faction he believed, he replied that he had already "seen the end of the world" when Rudolph Axmann had his parents gassed at Auschwitz. [Owls, Roosters] It's revealed that The Old Man approached Peter Watts with an offer to join The Millennium Group. Watts, going through an especially difficult period, saw comfort in The Group, and agreed. [The Time Is Now]
Olson: The Millennium Group member assigned to watch Lucy Butler after Bob Bletcher's murder. In recent months, his reports had detailed Lucy's decreased activity. However, when Frank and Peter Watts found his long-dead, murdered body they realized Lucy wrote the reports herself and had access to Group files for some time. [A Room With No View]
Orlando, Kirk: Kirk's dead body was discovered in Josh Comstock's bed by Josh's mother Linda. The coroner revealed Kirk had been forced to ingest blood, a ritual Frank surmised was to cleanse the victim of the sins of their fathers. Kirk's father's sin involved money. [Weeds]
Palmer, Juliette (Sonny): Sonny escaped from the Great Falls Women's Prison so her partner Janette Vidy could safely give birth to the child they both believed was immaculately conceived. Frank located both women in a train yard and assisted in the birth, but Janette hemorrhaged and dies. A distraught Sonny left the train and was shot by law enforcement officers outside, as she pretended to be pulling a gun out of her pocket. [In Arcadia Ego]
Patient Zero (Dr. William R. Kramer): The man who infected himself with an experimental mind control weapon he was developing within The Human Genome Project. The Project, an effort to produce a blueprint of the "functional and evolutionary history of the human species," was stepped up for completion by the millennium. [Sense and Antisense]
Penseyres, Jim: A member of The Millennium Group who formerly worked for VICAP following Frank Black's departure, he occasionally assisted Frank in various cases, but presumably left for other assignments. [Gehenna, Dead Letters, The Judge]
Pepper, Alistair (Al): The oily lawyer who represented Martin, the man who falsely confessed to the murder of Bob Bletcher. Frank ignored Pepper's promises of safety and refused his offer to "join him." Pepper was later killed by Sammael in the parking lot of a grocery store. [Powers, Principalities, Thrones, and Dominions]
Perkins, Dicky Bird (D.B.): Friend to Brian Roedecker and one of the
Millennium Group's foremost computer experts, Dicky Bird helped upgrade Frank's computer and provided the profiler with access to more sensitive Group files. [The Beginning and the End]
Petey, Edward: A self-righteous serial killer who abducted teenage boys to cleanse them of their father's sins (by forcing them to ingest blood) and punish their fathers for crimes they had committed. Among his victims: Kirk Orlando, Josh Comstock, and Charlie Birckenbuehl. Petey was apprehended by Frank and Cheryl Andrews. [Weeds]
Dr. Pettey: The doctor of the fictitious "Center for Infectious Diseases," he briefed Frank and Giebelhouse telling them (falsely) Zero was infected with a pathogen normally seen only in the Congo. [Sense and Antisense]
Pettey, Homer B.: The fictitious man who authorized Cheryl Andrew's release from a German prison and subsequently had her killed. Pettey's shack in Fingus, Maine was scheduled to be demolished to make way for a new freeway. Emma entered the shack and discovered several hideous instruments used by The Millennium Group to execute their victims, among them: a device for melting the flesh off bones. Peter Watts confronted Emma and told her she had the wrong impression and shortly thereafter, they watch the building be bulldozed to the ground. [Skull and Bones]
The Polaroid Stalker: After receiving menacing Polaroids of Catherine and Jordan, Frank retired from the FBI and relocated his family to Seattle. However, the
Polaroids continued to arrive and Catherine was later abducted from the Sea-Tac airport by the stalker himself. [Paper Dove] It was revealed The Millennium Group had withheld information about The Polaroid Stalker and Frank, understandably upset, continued his pursuit without their involvement. He found Catherine within the basement of an abandoned home and struggled with The Polaroid Stalker who died brutally at Frank's hand. Disturbed by these events, Catherine asked for a temporary separation in her marriage. [The Beginning and the End]
Plott, Penny: The longtime owner of a daycare center in Probity, Arkansas, Plott was accused of abusing her students. Although the town was convinced of her guilt, Frank and Lara Means determined the devilish five-year-old Danielle Barbakow was actually responsible. [Monster]
Preshutski, Rhonda: Initially skeptical that Catherine could effectively prosecute Joe Bangs, she became more supportive when it was revealed Sara Bangs was not Connie's sister, but daughter... by Joe. [The Well Worn Lock]
Prine, Matthew: A man obsessed with the apocalypse, he was pursued by Frank and Peter Watts following his abduction of school children. It was revealed his actions had actually saved the children, as he put them in an underground shelter and protected them the tornado above that had, coincidentally, demolished the school they were to attend that day. Prine himself was ultimately swept away. [19:19]
Purdue: An inmate of an insane asylum, Purdue was falsely accused of murdering a young couple. He later killed the actual culprit, Edwards, and saved Dr. Stoller. [The Pest House]
Ratfinkovitch, Joseph P.: The excommunicated Selfosophist (ironically referred to as a ratfinkovitch) who was electrocuted after the Onan O' Graph malfunctioned. Ratfinkovitch was found dead in his apartment by author Jose Chung. [Jose Chung's "Doomsday Defense"]
Reynard, Joe: A Native American who forced members of his tribe to consume rattlesnake venom as a ritual intended to induce visions of "another plane." He orchestrated the abduction of Frank, the lost white brother, and forced him to participate in the ritual. [A Single Blade of Grass]
Roberts, Vernon: A school bus driver, he felt remorse about not preventing the abduction of the children by Matthew Prine. Jessica Cayce convinced him "it's not what you did, but what you're going to do" and he began to help mount an escape. [19:19]
Robbinski: Robbinski asked Frank and Giebelhouse "how could a religious order with ties to Hollywood be involved in anything immoral?" and told them if Selfosophy itself was placed under suspicion, they would be "sued to the fullest extent, but in full accordance with the law." [Jose Chung's "Doomsday Defense"]
Roe, Teresa (Kate Lynn): Affectionately referred to as "Roe the Hoe," Teresa was the guidance counselor at James K. Polk High School in Seattle. Evidence suggested she was a scout for Lucy Butler's indoctrination program. Further evidence suggested she had been through Lucy's program herself. After being questioned by Frank, she revealed the location of the farm where Landon Bryce and the others were being held. Roe's original name, before she was abducted by Lucy, was Kate Lynn. [A Room With No View]
Ryan, Al: Ryan claimed to have been fatally attacked by a wolf and then brought back to life by Lhasa and Rose. He drew the attention of Frank and Jordan by walking through the town dressed only in Eddie Gianini's bullet-ridden jacket. [Omerta]
Samiel: The angelic figure who postponed the deaths of some (including the four he locked within a
train car to prevent them from drowning) and took the lives of others (including Gertrude Epstein, Lisa Maher, and Patrick Varad who had mysteriously drowned on land). His fourth victim was intended to be Jordan who had been given additional time on Earth after she contracted Meningitis in Seattle. However, Samiel ultimately sacrificed himself so Jordan could continue to live. [Borrowed Time]
Sammael: The angelic figure responsible for the death of Alistair Pepper. He later told Frank it only "pained" him, not "harmed" him to be on Earth. When Peter Watts inquired as to what Sammael was, Frank could only guess: "Maybe he's part of something all of us are otherwise unware of." [Powers, Principalities, Thrones, and Dominions]
Sanderson, Lucas: Although Jordan suspected his father of malicious intent, Lucas was actually responsible for the deaths of Simon and Judy Scranton. Upon entering the Sanderson home, Frank found himself surrounded by flames. While struggling to escape, he saw Will Sanderson futily attempt to save his son. Safely outside, Frank and Jordan watched as Lucas transformed into Lucy Butler. [Saturn Dreaming of Mecury]
Saxum, Devina: The target of nanny Lucy Butler's obsession, research would confirm her footprints matched that of Lucy's deceased child -- the child she was accused murdering long ago. Her attempts at seducing Devina's father John, a
candidate for state governorship, were thwarted by John's wife Una. Lucy saw no other solution but to kill them both. [Antipas]
Scaife, Doug: A technician who worked in the FBI Forensic Sound Lab, Doug assisted Frank ("Mr. B.") on several
occasions. Although he determined the mysterious cassette tape sent to Frank by Alice Severin was nothing but white noise (every sound in the audio spectrum played at the same time) it actually subconsciously manifested Frank's worst fear -- he was to blame for Catherine's death. [The Sound of Snow] Scaife also examined a virus Frank had found on his computer, but was unable to decipher the code because it kept rewriting itself like a snake biting its own tail. The virus would
occasionally flash "We are racing toward an Apocalypse of our own creation" on the screen. [Bardo Thodol] He later discovered Lucas Barr's alias was Daniel Baron and gave Frank the location of Barr's girlfriend Cheryl Kellough's home. [Goodbye To All That]
Dr. Schlossburg A modern day German physician who uncovered the whereabouts of The Hand of St. Sebastian, initiating Watts's search for the relic. Frank and Peter Watts traveled to Germany to consult with him, but discovered he had been murdered three days prior. [The Hand of St. Sebastian]
Scranton, Calvin: While his mother Judy flirted with Will Sanderson, young Calvin meandered through the Sanderson home and became interested in a display of glass eyeballs, which unbeknownst to him, were "watching." While driving away, Judy heard Calvin screaming in pain and discovered he had taken one of the eyeballs. The car swerved and she was impaled by colliding with a telephone pole. Calvin escaped with only minor injuries. Frank noted the similarities between the accident and one that
occurred in Phoenix. [Saturn Dreaming of Mecury]
Severin, Alice (Victor Chyren): Alice was responsible for creating cassette tapes of white noise that subconsciously manifest the worst fears of listeners, among them: Carol Wheatly -- backed into the path of an oncoming truck because she blamed herself for the death of a boy who had fallen through thin ice, and Jerry Origo -- through himself out of a
high-rise building because he neglected to place batteries in the smoke detectors of a housing project that caught fire and killed seven people. After Frank received a tape, he experienced a vision of Catherine whose death he felt responsible for. Emma and Giebelhouse found him in the woods of the Wenatchee Mountains, nearly frozen to death. During her interrogation, Alice spoke of a mythical ferryman named Charon (she had used a similar name, Victor Chyren, when mailing Frank his tape) who is referenced in Nostradamus. Frank concludes The Millennium Group used Alice's services as a means of giving him back Catherine. [The Sound of Snow]
Shetterly, Emma: The high school Vice Principal who summoned Catherine to Rowan, Washington to counsel five female students who claimed to have had a vision of the Virgin Mary. [Anamnesis]
Shiffer, Ernie: The guard at the Great Falls Women's Prison who was the first and only suspected father of Janette's baby. Research would later confirm he was not, supporting Janette and Sonny's claim of immaculate conception. [In Arcadia Ego]
Simon: The angelic figure who Frank first saw outside a toy store and then later outside a church. Simon explained to Frank about "fetches," souls of those who are destined to die during the following year. Fetches are said to "make their way to the church [at Christmas] in search of those who will soon be their companions." On Christmas Eve, Frank and Jordan were witness to this as the fetches (including Frank's father Henry) walked past them. [Midnight of the Century]
Simon: Jordan's imaginary friend who, as a child, was naturally suspicious of adults and not other children. He lead Jordan to wrongly accuse Will Sanderson of being evil while Will's young son Lucas was the one demonic in nature. Simon was revealed to be the unborn child of Mrs. Simon, a woman murdered in Phoenix, the city the Sandersons had just moved from. Emma later discovered his fingerprints on the gardening shear Will Sanderson was stabbed with. [Saturn Dreaming of Mecury]
Mr. Smooth: The Selfosophist who read Jose Chung's magazine article regarding Selfosophy and became so enraged he sent Chung a clown doll impaled with knives. He later intended to kill Chung, but was stalled by the author until Frank could arrive. Fleeing from Frank, he believed positive thoughts alone could help him leap an impossible distance between two buildings and plummeted to his death. [Jose Chung's "Doomsday Defense"]
Dr. Stoller: A psychiatrist at an insane asylum who strongly opposed the notion that her patients could be responsible for the murders of local citizens. [The Pest House]
Surova, Yura: A member of the Moscow Police Department, Yura assisted Frank and N.Y.P.D. Lieutenant McCormick in the apprehension of Yaponchik, a man he describes as a "Russian bogeyman" and who many believed was responsible for the accident at Chernobyl. Yura confronted Yaponchik in a Russian bathhouse and shot him in the head, a mortal wound predicted in the Book of Revelation. But Frank discovered the Bible also said Yaponchik would miraculously survive. He then went to Yaponchik's hospital room, but found he had somehow convinced Yura to take him to the roof. As a helicopter touched down to escort Yaponchik to safety, Yura realized his mistake and ran to Frank weeping. [Maranatha]

When Frank found half of the Jack Spades on the body of a woman -- Mrs. Rothenburg, he connected it with the death of a jogger the previous week. A visit with the still incarcerated Richard Hance confirmed the identical pattern and Frank knew Tyler would eventually announce his location by placing an anonymous phone call to a police hotline. Among them: a woman who restored and sent religious icons as offerings. Frank discovered a package in her attic addressed to Sergei Stepanovich at the Russian Embassy.
